Everything about the Nil Desperandum
History
The Nil Desperandum (lat. Don’t desperate), today a stately 3-mast schooner, was build in 1894 at Van Duijvendijk in Papendrecht as a two-mast clipper. Then the ship is been build as a cargo ship with only sails, without engine, to sail across the dutch waterways. She transported for example potatoes, sugar, beets, manure and peat. She did it this way until about the 1950.
Then the ship is been sold and the new owner putted the sails of and placed the first engine in, a GM with 110 HP. After a few years the ship has been sold again and another engine is been build in, a DAF 1160 Turbo with 250 HP, witch is currently in the boat. In 1992 the ship has been sold again and is been converted to a luxury and comfortable charter ship at the shipbuilder the Ommekeer in Bolsward. Then she became her current name.
